Trip to the Boston Public Library

+
I made a trip to the Boston Public Library, which was exceptionally beautiful.
I made a library card, and now can access to its online collection.

A week of 12.12-12.16, the last week of the 2011 NBSS

+
We all celebrated the end of week of the 2011 NBSS in the final hockey game.
A great, cheerful gathering!

++
The Shaker nigh stand was milk painted, the drawer pull was turned.
Applying shellac was postponed to the next year, however.
I'll come back to school next year.
Farewell my NBSS friends!

A week of 12.05-12.09

+
Lance gave a lecture on bent laminations, another interesting subject.
A lecture is a convenient time for instructors to make announcements as well.

++
My project got many dents, splits, scars by accidents, needed to be fixed.
I had to do a lot of steam ironing.

+++
We will finish this project in next week before the winter break starting 12.19.
The remaining stuffs are making(turning) drawer pull, and finish it by milk paint and shellac(french polishing?).

A week of 11.28-12.02

+
We started this week by installing runners and kickers.
I had a non square drawer opening, therefore needed two different blocks for install kickers parallel to runners.

++
We all sweated by making a drawer.
I wasted 3 drawer sides, and had to ask Bob for lumber.
Lessons were learned from mistakes, though.

+++
I managed to finish the drawer, drawer bottom, and the top.
Now, remaining things are fitting drawers, installing the top, and turing the drawer pull, which will be done next week.

++++
A NBSS way of preparing for Christmas.
I entertained an idea of making a puzzle for a Christmas present, but quickly gave it up. ;-)

A week of 11.21-11.23 (Thanksgiving 24-25)

+
It was a short, Thanksgiving week.
Everything has gone very slowly.
We have finished drilling holes for screws, elongating them by chisels, making pockets for pocket holes by chip carving, and gluing them up all together.
No photos were taken, though.

A week of 11.14-11.18

+
We have finished sides of the stand, except the runners and kickers.

++
Things have been proceeded slowly this week, at least for me.
I have launched a new exercise myself for the upcoming tool chest project.

+++
This is my work place.

A week of 11.07-11.11

+
We went to a lumberyard in NH on Tuesday.
The piles of lumber in the machine room are all ours for the Shaker night stand project.

++
Lance gave a lecture on mirror furniture.

+++
These are parts for my Shaker night stand, rough-milled by machines and finished by hand planes.

++++
I made 6 haunched mortises, 2 mortises for twin tenons, and 8 tapers on inner sides of legs.
We may finish this Shaker night stand project next week.

Monday, November 7, 2011

A week of 10.31-11.04

+
We added a table saw to our machine list.
Dan explained how a board ran through the window by a kick-back.

++
Steve gave a lecture on through dovetail, and I was very impressed.
Not quite relevant photo was taken, though.

+++
Lance gave a lecture on making flutes on a column.
Since I liked Sheraton style furniture, I was very interested in this subject.
He showed how to use a router and a shaper with jigs.

++++
I finished mortise and tenon joints, lapped dovetail, and oil stone box.
I am still struggling in dovetailing...

+++++
We will make a Shaker night stand, next week! ;-)
